The martial art of Xingyiquan in its modern form was established around
200 years ago in the chinese province of Shaanxi, but according to local
legend, the roots of Xingyi even go back to the famous general and
national hero Yue Fei, who created the style in the 12th century by
adapting spearfighting-techniques to unarmed combat.

Xingyi, alongside Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Baguazhang, is amongst the
three most popular internal kung fu styles.
It relies heavily on efficient and direct striking. Combining and
adjusting the five basic techniques, each corresponding to one of the
chinese elements, the Xingyi-practitioner becomes competent in creating
many different applications for self defense
